ACCESS & EQUITY

Building Trust, Making Connections: A Trauma-Informed Approach to Access

SRQ Strong was awarded a grant by the Community of Foundation of Sarasota County to broaden and deepen our outreach in African American and Spanish speaking communities. In partnership with MHI and Hispanic/Latinx community leaders we aim to reduce health disparities through this project by:

  • Building relationships with formal and informal community leaders to better understand needs, support existing strengths, and facilitate access to services.
  • Developing and conveying information about stress and coping in culturally-accessible formats.
  • Providing trauma education and healing opportunities for community members and outreach staff.

ONE234

Our vision is to create a community where all members thrive, and where caring for each other is the norm. We use the Neighborhood Resilience Project's Trauma-informed Community Development model as our framework for action. Our first pilot neighborhood is part of Sarasota zip code (34234) divided by a major thoroughfare into two historically segregated areas. Our hope is to bring these areas into ONE united community. Three community members have stepped up to get involved, and have named the emergent effort "Moving Forward."
